Each child is unique, and learners thrive when engaged in fun activities, which will enhance their learning experience. Unlike traditional teaching methods, hands-on activities such as role-plays, sensory activities, and games ensure that children learn effectively and retain knowledge for life. At PNC Cognitio School, we aim to prepare children for lifelong learning by focusing on four Cs: Collaboration, Communication, Cognitive and Creative development. Our approach incorporates a variety of fun learning activities related to early childhood education, encouraging learners to actively engage and explore.
Cambridge Early Years curriculum includes six curriculum areas:
1. Language and Communication Development: Language is fundamental for learning. To encourage language acquisition, we emphasize phonics through fun activities such as sensory games, visual stimulation, phonics songs, and stories. Activities include walking on letters drawn on the floor, moving toy cars over letters, and creating letters with play-dough. These activities help children recognize letter sounds and eventually learn blending. Opportunities for communication with peers enhance their language skills, with tasks like describing pictures and narrating stories.
2. Mathematics: Mathematics is integral to daily life, and learning it becomes easier through engaging games. We teach counting with counters, place value using objects, and the value of money through role-plays like a market scenario where children sell items and give change. Visits to supermarkets provide hands-on experience in buying items and checking prices, fostering a practical understanding of numbers.
3. Creative Expression: Creativity is a vital form of communication, especially in early childhood. We encourage children to express themselves without fear of mistakes. Activities include modelling objects with play-dough, drawing familiar scenes, and dancing to music. Imaginative play, such as role-plays, helps children understand real-life roles and activities. Creative expression fosters their ability to generate ideas and make sense of the world, integrating skills from across the curriculum and building on their personal experiences.
4. Physical Development: Physical activities are crucial for building strength and keeping children active. Our program includes warm-up exercises, gross motor development games, swimming, and skating. These activities promote physical well-being and development.
5. Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: We support children in managing their feelings and behaviours, fostering empathy, interaction, and positive relationships. Role-plays teach values like sharing and helping, and activities highlight the importance of health, hydration, and anger management.
6. Understanding the World: This area focuses on scientific thinking and exploring the environment. Activities include nature walks where children observe different plants and learn about their growth patterns and sizes. Hands-on experiences help children understand the materials they encounter daily and develop a scientific mindset.
The Early Years curriculum is interconnected, linking literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and creativity to provide a holistic learning experience.
Our mission strives to accomplish all these aspects and we work diligently towards creating a future leader with a global mindset.
